BAUR, Ferdinand Christian

BAUR, Ferdinand Christian
(1792-1860)
German theologian and founder of the Tübigen School. He was a disciple of SCHLEIERMACHER and greatly influenced by HEGEL'S PHILOSOPHY of HISTORY. He caused great controversy by suggesting there was an essential conflict between the views of SAINT PAUL and the DISCIPLES of JESUS. This interpretation came from his application of HEGEL'S theories to the NEW TESTAMENT.
