   the evidence and attestation of a genuine TRADITION of MUSLIM thought and interpretation which can be traced back through a chain of authorities which vouch for its reliability to the COMPANIONS OF THE PROPHET. It is what the tradition uses to legitimate its claims as opposed to what it teaches.
