FA HSIEN

FA HSIEN
(late 4th or early 5th century)
   famous Chinese BUDDHIST MONK who left China in 399 to visit India in search of BUDDHIST SCRIPTURES. Returning to China in 414 he initiated a period of intense translation of the manuscripts he had collected. His adventures were recorded in The Narrative of Fa Hsien which was translated into English in 1869.
