DIVINE RIGHT OF KINGS

DIVINE RIGHT OF KINGS
a CHRISTIAN version of DIVINE KINGSHIP which makes the monarch GOD'S anointed leader and to whom loyalty and obedience are required. In the seventeenth century the PURITANS rejected such arguments on Biblical grounds resulting in the English Civil War and, eventually, the establishment of representative government.
