BEDE, the Venerable

BEDE, the Venerable
(673-735)
   called the "Father of English history." He was a CHRISTIAN MONK who spent his life at the monasteries of Wearmouth and Jarrow where he devoted himself to scholarship. He is best remembered for his classic work The Ecclesiastical History of the English People.
