BAKER-EDDY, Mary
(1821-1910)
   the founder of The CHURCH OF CHRIST SCIENTIST, popularly known as CHRISTIAN SCIENCE, and author of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (1875). She was a physically weak woman but her teachings arose after she experienced a profound physical healing which she attributed to the work of GOD. They consist of a CHRISTIANIZED form of HINDUISM which draws inspiration from many other religious and metaphysical sources. Probably her most lasting achievement outside her Church was the establishment of The Christian Science Monitor as a world class newspaper with extremely high standards of journalism.
