ABU BAKR
(d. 634)
   strong friend and supporter of MUHAMMAD he became the CALIPH, or spiritual leader, of ISLAM after Muhammad's death. Through his activities and success in warfare, Islam developed from a local, tribal, RELIGION of the Arabs to a world FAITH.
