LÉVI-STRAUSS, Claude

LÉVI-STRAUSS, Claude
(1908-)
French ANTHROPOLOGIST and originator of structuralism. Although immensely influential in anthropology, he did very little fieldwork and is more a philosopher and armchair anthropologist in the tradition of Sir James FRAZER than an empirical scientist. His works include Totemism (1963), The Savage Mind (1966) and Structural Anthropology (1963).
